Hajime no Ippo has received a number of video games over the years, but the last one released almost a decade ago in 2014 - so we're extra bummed this project never got to become a reality. Ponton does still seem to hold a fire for going back to the hyper boxing experience in the style of an Arc System Works game, but they'd obviously have to replace all of the Ippo characters. While some canceled fan games still get released in their unfinished state, that apparently won't be the case here since it sounds like an artist who worked on the project doesn't want their work to be shared further.

Aside from the fact that he is a professional boxer and athlete overall, he is still a high school kid trying to make something of himself in the world. However, Ippo, as a character, is quite relatable. As can be seen from the brief round of gameplay revealed, the game would have leaned heavily into real boxing mechanics with the exaggerated flair that makes Ippo so special. Of course, not many of us are actual professional boxers, or athletes for that matter.
